That's always been the problem. Humanity has skewed idea of 'wealth.'

Canadians are bullshit? Mmmm, perhaps the parts of us that have been infected by the U.S.
Other than that, we're kind of non-entities.

I just had a "discussion" about property with a workmate. I said ownership comes from the barrel of a gun, he went with the whole Locke-ian thing about productivity.

I told him that's completely wrong. That Locke was full of shit.

He disagreed.

I shoved my .357 in his face and won the argument.

Exactly the truth. Productivity is measured in the caliber of gun you carry.

That's your choice. Our lives are about as long as the fart of a cosmic gnat. How you choose to squander it is always up to you.

What I meant is, locke's full of shit - property of land on this planet has always been determined first by violence and then by the laws of the people who won the land by violence.

I do not even own a gun.

Locke was not entirely full of shit. Jefferson admired him. But he still felt compelled to substitute Happiness for Property as the highest of human pursuits. And for that I love Jefferson.

Seems to me that Lockean philosophy is just a way to make colonial powers feel better about what they did/do.

Enlightenment philosophers were always afraid to consider love as a principle. They left that to the poets.
