I think we need to think in terms of creating space, whether it's agricultural, financial, energetic...

The mobile phone industry and the internet are examples of us creating huge spaces from nothing.

I see every well fed guy in a job as one less mugger in the street...

Isn't is also important to consider what the job is?
I mentioned that a few times: Industrial Hemp, Local Power, Atmospheric Water, Local Organic Farming, Local economic systems, Alternative transport energy. At least a billion jobs there.

My feeling is more like this. After the winter storm all the able should be issued teaspoons and paid a decent wage to clear the snow from the sidewalks. That is useful work.
