SEOUL, June 28 (UPI) -- North Korea is equipping its border patrol boats with U.S.-made Gatling guns, the Yonhap News Agency reported Tuesday.

After repeated failed tests of its intermediate range ballistic missile over the past few months, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) attempted this morning to once again demonstrate its ability to strike with nuclear weapons, launching two Musudan missiles within four hours. The first missile traveled a mere 95 miles (about 150km) before crashing into the sea off the east coast of the Korean peninsula.

To Play Pokémon Go in South Korea, Head North to the DMZ
Hit game brings fans to rural border town known for squid festival; ‘crawling all over City Hall’

ALONG THE DEMILITARIZED ZONE, South Korea—Lee Jae-hyeong brought his two children here to help them come to grips with the painful history of the Korean Peninsula, represented today by military checkpoints, heavy armaments, layers of barbed wire and a wasteland that has split North from South since 1953.

“I brought my kids here to think about the division of the nation,” he said. Instead, he lamented, “the kids are more focused on Pokémon.”

North Korea has arrested a defector accused of involvement in a child abduction plot it says was masterminded by South Korean agents.

The Russian leader has invited the president of South Korea to Russia to discuss the growing nuclear threat posed by the secretive nation.

North Korea has been diving towards nuclear devastation for the past month as Pyongyang declared open war against the United States and the rotund menace test fired more missiles towards Japan.

Vlad will meet with the hermit dictator's arch-nemsis President Park Geun-hye at a meeting in Vladivostock near the North Korean border in September.

The South Korean president's office confirmed the duo will be discussing the north's nuclear programme.

While North Korea and Russia have been pals in the past, earlier this year the Kremlin said they were "extremely worried" by Kim's nuclear weapons.

Putin has said the cherub-faced villain's aggressive posturing could be grounds for an invasion – warning his former friend not to provoke the world's wrath.

...But despite Kim's ambitions for World War 3, he is also turning his eyes to the moon as North Korea announced an ambitious plan to conquer space.

I wondered about their moon ambition when many of the missiles launches have been failures.

And this

Senior North Korean Diplomat Reportedly Defects To South Korea
North's Korea's No. 2 diplomat in the U.K. has defected to South Korea — one of the highest-ranking officials to do so, according to South Korea.

A spokesman for South Korea's Unification Ministry announced Wednesday that London-based Thae Yong Ho had recently arrived in the country and that he and his family are now under government protection, the Yonhap News Agency reports.

As NPR's Frank Langfitt tells our Newscast Unit, South Korean officials say Thae had grown disappointed by the government of Kim Jong Un:

"They also say Thae's defection signals weakening support for Kim among North Korean elites.

"Thae was the second-ranking diplomat in the United Kingdom behind North Korean Ambassador Hyun Hakbong.

"North Korea watchers say Thae could provide valuable intelligence on political support for the regime as well as the state of North Korea's nuclear program and economic reforms.

"The highest ranking North Korean official to defect to Seoul was Hwang Jang Yop, who was high up in the ruling Workers' Party.

"He fled nearly two decades ago and died in 2010."

Several analysts questioned whether a defection by Thae signals discontent with the current regime

Washington (CNN)The US and South Korean militaries started a massive joint annual exercise Monday, a drill that has drawn North Korean threats of nuclear retaliation.

North Korea test fires ballistic missile from submarine

Seoul (CNN)North Korea test fired a submarine-based ballistic missile from its east coast on Wednesday, South Korean authorities said.
The launch took place at 5:30 a.m. local time, according to a statement from the South Korean Foreign Ministry.

North Korea's launch took place in the waters, off Sinpo, South Hamgyong Province, in the early morning, the South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said.
"If the North Korean regime continues to pursue its nuclear and missile capabilities and ignore severe economic difficulties of its people, it will bring about more severe sanctions and diplomatic isolation. It should also realize that it will hasten its self-destruction," the country's Foreign Ministry said.
