Korean Air 007, the airliner shot down by Russian forces.

Was it

1) that the crew was clueless about it's off course position despite all they indications they must have known

or

2) a cover up of some cold war type activity.

Schlossberg, as a new citizen of Israel, met Shifrin in 1989, and through Shifrin, met and questioned one of his sources, and came to question the accepted belief that the people of KAL 007 had perished. Through his own investigation and research of newly released documents, Schlossberg became convinced that the passengers and crew of KAL 007 had been recovered by the Russians and then imprisoned.
Could be trying to sell a book. Interesting conspiracy nonetheless.

"Act Of War" said the headline and the story like all stories ultimately disappeared from view.

You don't number flights 007 and expect clear passage.

Good point. It does seem rather obvious in hindsight. I have heard the Russians have also had those fancy movies showing devices for many years.

The internet hawks in recent days are all over the Russian jet fly by on the USS Cook in the Black Sea. Wanting it shot down to teach then Ruskies a lesson. That would basically be an act of war.

I think the Russians may still working the Iran Air 655 angle hoping for another Navy screw up.
