The women who allow us to suck them still are the very best of the species.

I have nothing that I can say to them for their kindness, usually because my mouth is full.

This thread has gotten funny! :)

What did you all think of the gorilla story where all the volunteers breastfed their babies in front of the captive gorilla mother? I loved that story. The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding is a great book.

Sorry, LaR. On a more serious note, I never once stopped and thought that new mothers would have to learn how to breastfeed. As a culture, we try to cover up any connection we have to the animal world as unseemly and keep it out of the public eye.

That was an interesting story about the gorilla mama. I am surprised, as I said, to be honest. I thought the whole thing would be far more instinctual.

I feel for breast feeding mothers.

It must be very hard to manage in such a fast paced and demanding world.

Both mine were fed from the breast, and no health probs ever for either.

And grow.... christ, my 13yo is taller than his mother !

But I remember her dealing with cracked nipples, and getting bitten.

And me staying up at all hours to ensure if she fell a sleep, the boys were not smothered.

Everything I said here was entirely serious. Take it for what it's worth.
