Sure. Healthier meals is a concern. But the problem should be solved by community action, not by a Big Brother Fiat.

As long as it is solved, what does it matter who takes action? I guess I just don't see the problem with this.

The problem is one of coercian and centralized control of our lives. Americans have a genetic resistance to that. I share it.

My advice to concerned parents is to pack a good lunch for your kids and for the federal nannies to mind their own f++ing business.
In Denver, where my grand kids are, it is illegal to pack a lunch for your kids. They are forced to eat the slop.
As long as it is solved, what does it matter who takes action? I guess I just don't see the problem with this.
Who says it's solved? They are eating slop. And it does matter who takes action, would you like it if the people in Scotland forced you child to eat haggis? Would a Scott like it if your people forced their child to eat lutefisk?

There are at least six very different cultures in this nation, peoples from different cultures settling in different parts of the country. A central government over our vast real estate works no better than the (failing) central government in your part of the world. Belgium has no more business telling Sweden it may not export pine tar to England than Massachusetts has telling Kentucky they may not have a wood stove in the home.

You can bring a lunch to school in Denver. But you can't bring a gat. There seems to be some confusion.

I can only go by what my daughter has told me. What is a "gat"?

I see your point. I live in a very small country, I sometimes forget that the US is so diversed.

I've got no problem with the fed telling schools what they cannot serve, assuming the prohibited food is bad for you and as long as parents are always allowed to pack a lunch for their kids. I think it's ridiculous that in some school districts, you can't pack a lunch. My kid's school isn't too bad. They offer 3 or more kinds of fresh fruit, 2 or more veggies, 2 kinds of sandwiches on whole wheat and then some kind of hot food. The kids can pick whatever they want. School breakfast is about the same, fresh fruit, cereal, hot cereal every day or there's a different kind of hot food every day.
