On Oct. 3, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans will open an exhibition of photographs that capture the rural South at a pivotal moment of cultural change. This is the story of the man who shot those pictures — and how they almost never saw the light of day.

Some characters in those pics. Guess it why it's called the sticks. Where reality is people, not a lot of other distractions.

Looks like one giant distraction from reality. People are distractions too.

True, but those people are reality. Not a lot of plastic and glitter to be found then.
