You build a robot to do your every day tasks for you so you don't have to work anymore. One day, you come home to find that your robot has built another robot to do its tasks for it.
Then 2nd robot build a robot
Then 3rd robot build a robot
One day you come home to find a couple of hundred robots hanging out and up to who knows what.

Man creates robots who take over and destroy man. Then robots create biological life which is becomes mankind.

1) Resource constraints (precious metals) and lack of maintenance bots
2) Environmental/planetary issue fail chain on the maintenance bots
3) Bad system update (thanks to Blort Bert 2546) due to lack of detection of solar anomaly affecting database memory array and changing code. (Thanks Sun)
4) They become self-realized, understand how the universe works, and reprioritize their mission. They start a less is more campaign.
