If you think about it, their heritage fucking sucks.
A bunch of wealthy WASPs who wanted to play royalty on their kingdoms (plantations). But wait! They're too lazy to do the work themselves, but also too cheap/greedy to hire other white men to do it for them. So what did the WASPs do? Import a bunch of slaves and then convinced those same white men that one day, they too, could be slaveowners. Don't forget coming up with some bullshit interpretation of the bible to justify why owning humans was "god's will" or morally right.
So what's their heritage? Dying for a bunch of WASPs who didn't give a flying fuck about you (if anything, actively made you poorer) and sent you to your deaths, because you were stupid enough to be convinced that your "way of life" was under attack.
