Astronomers discover planet made of diamond

Astronomers have spotted an exotic planet that seems to be made of diamond racing around a tiny star in our galactic backyard.

"The evolutionary history and amazing density of the planet all suggest it is comprised of carbon -- i.e. a massive diamond orbiting a neutron star every two hours in an orbit so tight it would fit inside our own Sun," said Matthew Bailes of Swinburne University of

Even now, diamonds are not really that rare here on Earth, the market is being carefully controlled to keep the prices up, and humans are perfectly capable of producing synthetic diamonds too. I doubt there will ever be fought space wars over them.

Some day there may break out space wars over clean water resources found on other planets, though. Or some other and much more useful stuff we haven't even discovered yet.
