he should be prosecuted and hanged by hes balls untill hes balls is dead.
It is diesel electric computerized ship, the engines went out of sync (one engine producing a different voltage than another) causing an explosion in the engine room. Power was lost, so everything, including stupid electronic navigation and auto pilot had to be re-set. At that point the ship was sailing itself blind. The helm was fly by wire, so yanking on the wheel does nothing. The ship had a ridiculous number of passengers. The captain was told all were accounted for.

The fault lies in the government authorities who would allow a ship to be built that would be computerized and accommodate a ridiculous number of passengers.

Granted, the ship was not sinking any deeper and the captain could have found a comfortable spot on a side bulk head and smoked a few cigars for a few days, but the folks who died would have still died.

Our reliance on electronic doo dads has become shameful.

BS
The Boss sounds skeptical. This from Matt Drudge.

.....a power surge or "harmonic interference" could have caused a malfunction in the generators feeding the ship's six diesel-electric engines, while back-up systems failed to provide power with sufficient speed. This would have caused the ship to lose navigational power and steering control and to veer off course.

"The systems need to be reset and most of these things have automatic back-up, but it takes time for them to come in," said Latarche, who added that a similar problem had caused the Queen Mary 2 to lose power in September 2010 as she was approaching Barcelona.

This similarity between the two incidents was also stressed by the maritime professionals' union Nautilus International which said it was now essential that inquiries into the Concordia's grounding examine reports of electrical problems in all modern ships. The general secretary of the union, Mark Dickinson, added that the accident should serve as a wake-up call to the shipping industry.

The worse thing in the eyes of the Bambi lovers is the fact that the evil crew of the ship broke off this rock and killed and displaced some worms.

The captain abandoned ship after an hour. He was a coward and therefore looks unfit. I suppose people will still defend his actions.

If he really did leave after just an hour then he is a big dummy. Early reports were that he thought everyone was off.

Coastguard officials have said he had refused to return to the vessel when asked to.

Oh you big dummy, if you had only stayed, those of us who have been in the maritime world could have finally convinced the world that a big electronic ship with too many souls on board is a stupid idea. Now greedy Carnival can use you for a red herring and continue running insanely unsafe ships.

At a news conference in Genoa, the head of Costa Cruises, a unit of Carnival Corp, rejected suggestions that the sheer size of the cruise ship had made it impossible to evacuate the more than 4,000 people onboard safely.
"These ships are ultra-safe. It is an exceptional event, which was unforeseeable," Chairman and chief executive Pier Luigi Foschi said, fighting back tears as he answered questions.

Fight back your crocodile tears you greedy fraud, you can not possibly control or handle 4000 people on a sinking ship with any order, so no, your ships are not "ultra-safe", it's an idiot test you idiot.
