But they don't. It is the consumer. This is why it is hard to fix.

To maintain profits? I see.

Returning back to topic, what are the positive outcomes from the Old River Control Structure failing?

No.

To get it back into the USA instead of another country.

Good perspective on the reason for the change.

Due to sediment buildup south on the M and the control structure; and higher flow to Atchafalaya.

I hope all the dams along the Mississippi have their passwords up to date.

I am starting to think we may see a major failure in our lifetime.

Meanwhile, the Mississippi River crested last weekend in St. Louis at a level exceeded only by the Great Flood of 1993. That crest is now working its way downstream.

1993

The Mississippi River at St. Louis crested at 49.6 feet (15.1 m) on August 1, nearly 20 feet (6 m) above flood stage. It had a peak flow rate of 1,080,000 ft³/s (30,600 m³/s).

At this rate, a bowl the size of Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis would be filled to the brim in 70 seconds.
