The point is that...

These points of view are nothing new.

Buddhism and Hinduism struggled with that same white wall that the drug culture of the 60s til now has struggled with.

Once you get past the fact that you're trapped in a cage, then you can begin to look for a way out. Judaism and Christianity were the answers to the Nihilism at the end of the road of Eastern religion. Now that these have run their course, it seems as though we are becoming more and more inclined to re-visit the old Eastern thought patterns again... but this was a very forced re-entry into that thought stream, and it will be interesting to see whether Santa Claus can make it to enough households this Christmas, due to the mischief of the elves and their invention and experimentation with ingesting mind-obliterating chemicals.

Take a ship at sea, and then just run a fucking giant spear made from a downed redwood straight through the hull.... and that's what we've done to ourselves. The worst part is that nobody informed us of the spiritual consequences.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they will see God.

Judaism was very different than Christianity in one very particular way, once upon a time. It is a very earthly religion. There was no worry about an afterlife in the way we think of it.

Sin (pronounced more like "seen") just meant you missed the bullseye.

What I'm trying to say is, nobody knows nothin'. Got me? And, because of that, all of these "false idols" are built to give people some sort of solace. Even the worst of them serve someone - and not just those running the scams, those who are taken. Capisce?
We've had this very same discussion before. In existentialist terms (which is what we're considering) 'idolatry' is the substitution of mal foie (bad faith) for authentic existence- coupled with the conviction that essence subsumes existence. Hell of a problem.

I don't get religion, never cared to know, nor felt the need to seek it but I have the same conclusions.

It's as simple as looking around you. After a while, you begin to realize that just because YOU or even CIVILIZATION has reached the very end of reason, does not mean the world is ending.
The UNIVERSE is still here. There's so much left to do, but we have to wait for EVERYONE to make it over those last hurdles of reason. EVERYone. Nobody gets left behind.

Egg... so says a human. Think about this.... what did the last group of dinosaurs try to convince themselves of?
