Humans, I believe, have evolved away from skills we once had or may have had and which we still see in other animals.
That is what my anthropologist stepfather said to me many years ago when I asked about dowsing.

Animals can find water, why not humans?

It is a very eerie feeling the first time you feel the stick bend in your hands.

I once made a long and detailed post about it, it may have been lost in the koid crash, perhaps BE, who has more patience at finding such things than I can dig it up.
